Hirschmann Italy gets fit for retrofit

Retrofit_Italien

The business unit Electronic Control Systems of Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH in Agrate Brianza, near Milan, Italy, is registering high growth rates for retrofitting load moment indication systems (LMI) for cranes.

Retrofit business is developing particularly well in partnership with the leading local dealers CSA and Parenti.

A current example: ESPI Engineering Srl, headquartered in Castelfranco Emilia in the Italian province of Modena, retrofitted a load moment indication system into a LINK-BELT LS 418 lattice boom crane. ESPI’s portfolio includes trading new and used cranes, providing services for spare parts and repairs, hire and machine construction for special purposes. The company is a second-generation family business owned by Stefano Govoni.

MK4K system performance wins out

Mr Govoni took personal charge of the entire project. It involved deploying Hirschmann’s retrofit LMI system MK4K. Here are the details: graphic display, 25-ton KMD force transducer, WGC angle sensor and two anti-two-block sensors.

“The decision to opt for the MK4K system has been worthwhile for all parties,” said Mr Govoni, looking back on the successful LMI project. “Simple to install and calibrate, it can be used for many purposes and is highly reliable. I was particularly impressed by the integrated software interpolation tool. It reduces the calibration time dramatically, without impairing the accuracy of the load measurement. And ultimately, this means great efficiency and increased safety at a lower cost – for me and for my customers!”
