Hirschmann Automation and Control on fire brigade duty

Feuerwehr

Ettlingen, 17th April: on the stroke of four o’clock in the afternoon a unit with turntable ladder and rescue platform belonging to the Bad Wünneberg Fire Brigade roars up to the Hirschmann Automation and Control building. Two men in civilian dress hurry into the reception area. Frau Angelin in reception already has the phone in her hand and asks in a professional manner, “Where’s the fire?”

In –house repair for the turntable ladder

AS110

Time is short: it’s as if the two delegates from Metz Aerials GmbH & CO. KG, a long-standing customer of Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, have their trousers on fire. But the problem lies with the safety controls of the turntable ladder belonging to Metz. After all of 21 years of operational service the PAT system in use, the AS 110, has indicated a small fault. And Bad Wünneberg is waiting for the turntable ladder to be restored to service. One call from Frau Angelin and the rapid Customer Service Center from Hirschmann Automation and Control takes over the case.

21 years of reliable service: the PAT System AS 110

The service manager, Michael Emmerich, and his team check all the functions of the PAT AS 110 system; the mechanism for monitoring the turntable ladder and the platform against overload and tipping over by using two emergency switch-off devices. With the overload protection device, the so-called ‘free limit’ is the load at which an extra person can be carried on the platform; the tipping limit is the load at which the actual capacity can no longer be exceeded. In operational situations both protective functions are signalled to the operator.

The faulty transistor is swiftly located and replaced. The next day, after thorough testing of the equipment under load together with the customer, Michael Emmerich releases the AS 110 system which has been successfully repaired, for operational use again. With a huge ‘Thank you’ for the unconventional in-house repair and a confident ‘See you again in 21 years!’ the men from Metz GmbH are ready to go. Bad Wünneberg Fire Brigade is now prepared to the highest levels for the next emergency rescue operation.
