DWG rotary encoders from Hirschmann

DWG

The gSENS DWG rotary encoders combine precise position measurement with high resolution and compact design. The sensors have been especially developed for angular positioning tasks under rough environmental conditions, such as the slew ring control in mobile cranes.
Based on an optoelectronic scanning mechanism, the encoders provide a high measuring frequency and constant precision over the full measuring range. Without backup batteries the sensors are capable of providing precise position values from the moment they are switched on, as well as immediately after a power loss.
To allow for flexible installation in conditions with reduced headroom, the encoders are equipped with a short flange type. The devices can be fixed frontally or from the back with clips. Due to their identical mechanical layout the multi-turn and single-turn versions can be easily exchanged. The housing and rotating shaft are sealed in order to fulfill the IP65 protection class requirements.
The resolution for one turn of the shaft is 13 bit, which equals 0.044°. In addition, the multi-turn version provides information about the number of turns with 12 bit resolution (up to 4096 turns).
The CAN communication interface, according to the CANopen specification CiA DS301 V4.02, supports data rates of up to 1 Mbps.
The product portfolio includes 4 standard types of encoder. Special versions are available on request.
