Scalable Mobile Control System Conquers New Application

Diversity has a name: Hirschmann Mobile Machine Control Solutions (MCS). Its modular Scalable Mobile Control System (SMCS) has once again conquered a new application: large floor cleaning machines. Hirschmann MCS joined Quattromani Engineering GmbH to forge a tailored, fully automated control concept for the Bodenwart 240 automated floor cleaner/waxer, from the Swiss company of Infrasport AG, for sports halls and gymnasiums. The machine celebrated its world premiere at Suisse Public, the Swiss trade show for public enterprises and administrations, in late June with great hoopla.

The Swiss company’s Bodenwart 240 is the first large, easily programmable machine that fully automatically cleans and waxes the floors of sports halls and gymnasiums – thanks to the control system from Hirschmann MCS. The Bodenwart 240 is equipped with the console iSCOUT D2, a small and user-friendly operating panel, which goes with the control system and facilitates the programming of the machine. It makes wet and basic cleaning as well as the removal of resin as easy as pie to perform, creating ideal conditions for gymnasts, athletes or sports teams like basketball players to train, practice, and play.

The collaboration between Hirschmann MCS and Infrasport AG was just as customer-friendly as the easy-to-operate cleaning machine. After receiving Hirschmann MCS’s swift, professional reply to an inquiry in late 2009, the Swiss company quickly made up its mind to conduct the project with them.

Hirschmann MCS has already supplied six Scalable Mobile Control Systems and D2 operating consoles for the prototype and zero series of the cleaning machine. Infrasport AG plans to order 100 of them a year, with series manufacture kicking off in the fourth quarter of 2011. Initially the machines will be aimed at municipalities, associations, and clubs in Switzerland and neighboring countries.

Hirschmann MCS has thus once again demonstrated its new control system’s extraordinary versatility – and more. There are plenty of other applications out there, according to Michael Ball, the key account manager responsible for the project at Hirschmann MCS. “The Scalable Mobile Control System has potential for reaching a wide spectrum of customers in a panoply of applications, also in markets we haven’t addressed yet. We’re not even close to exhausting its conceivable uses.”
