Mobile cranes are another area where Hirschmann Mobile Machine Control Solutions (MCS) demonstrates what makes a solution provider unique: optimum customer service and comprehensive expertise. The crane expert supports its customers in the design-in of components and solutions. Furthermore, Hirschmann MCS assists its customers with the development of specification-based solutions, as well as commissioning. And, as a reliable partner, the company is naturally closely involved in the requirements and standards for mobile cranes.
The solution provider keeps an eye on all updates and modifications. The latest updates of EN13000:2004, the first document to aggregate all requirements for mobile cranes for the European Economic Area, were published by way of a general revision under the title of EN13000:2010.
The primary objective of the modifications is β in addition to the implementation of the applicable requirements set down in the EC Machinery Directive β to further increase machine and operator safety on a broad scale and to reduce presumed misuse. Essentially there are three major new issues that were included in the standard which refer to particular cases of deadlock:
1. For rigging-/de-rigging procedures and for special operating conditions, such as deadlock of the rated capacity limiter, a set-up button may be provided.
2. In case of a failure of components of the rated capacity limiter/the load moment limiter, or in emergency situations, a bridging device may be necessary. In this case, a bridging device may be provided.
3. If the mobile crane is equipped with a set-up button and/or a bridging device, then a data recorder shall be available.
For a detailed description of the requirements to this equipment please refer to EN13000:2010, Section 4.2.6.3.3 Particular cases for the rated capacity limiter.
In order to facilitate implementation of the new features in practice, crane manufacturers met in FEM + CEN/TC working groups to prepare a joint proposal. Hirschmann MCS also actively contributed to the proposal submitted mid-2010. This document was distributed by the VDMA to the participants of the working groups and is already being applied to new cranes both by the crane manufacturers involved and by Hirschmann. Various working groups continue to work on the wording. It is planned to publish the result as an appendix to the current EN13000:2010.
Building upon the knowledge gained in successful projects that were completed since the release of EN13000:2010, Hirschmann MCS is well-prepared and looking forward to assisting its customers with future tasks.
